Orioles Call Up Youngest Pitcher in AL, Lose to Blue Jays

Kevin Gausman got roughed up in his Orioles debut, allowing four runs and seven hits in five innings, as the Blue Jays beat Baltimore 12-6 Thursday night.

Gausman, the youngest starter in the A.L, was called up from Double-A Bowie to face the Blue Jays. He is the 11th starter the Orioles used this year, one less than they used all of last season.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons reportedly said he did a "heck of a job" for his debut.

Chris Davis hit his major league leading 15th home run for Baltimore in the fourth inning. Nick Markakis and Adam Jones hit back-to-back homers off Brandon Morrow to start the eighth but the Blue Jays would score three more in the bottom of the eighth for the final score.

Edwin Encarnacion hit his fifth career grand slam in the sixth, and J.P. Arencibia homered and drove in four runs for Toronto.

The Orioles lost for the seventh time in nine games.
