I Unfriend You: Did Shabazz Napier Just Dis LeBron James or Twitter?
Shabazz Napier, the incoming Miami Heat rookie whose selection in the 2014 NBA draft had Lebron James lauding the pick, is protesting that he was unaware of unfollowing James on his Twitter account, @ShabazzNapier, and deleting some tweets after James left the Heat for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Napier said, "The whole thing about that is I don't know how to work Twitter yet and I'm not on my Twitter, so I don't know where that came from.… I don't pay attention to it. It gets brought to me by family members, but I don't pay any attention to it. I just think it's how it is. Media wants something to bite on."
Napier signed up for a Twitter account on June 25, the day before the NBA draft, and followed James soon after that. But after James left the heat for Cleveland, Napier’s account showed that he had unfollowed James and tweets that he sent to James were deleted.
After Napier led the University of Connecticut Huskies to 2014 NCAA men's basketball championship, James tweeted, “No way u take another PG in the lottery before Napier.” Then, after Napier was drafted by the Heat, James tweeted, “My favorite player in the draft! #Napier.”
Napier was wanted so badly by the Heat that they traded their first round pick, the #26 selection overall, and two second-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets to grab Napier at #24.
