Brawl Breaks Out In Taiwan Parliament

ITN: A fight broke out amongst politicians during a parliament session on Friday over a controversial referendum proposal on building a fourth nuclear power plant. Legislators of the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party had occupied the parliament speaker’s podium in the Assembly Hall since Thursday evening, blocking the doors with chairs.

Scuffles broke out when the ruling Nationalist Party legislators entered for a parliament session on Friday morning.

Legislators threw water bottles, got into fights with one another, with one legislator seen wearing a helmet to protect himself.

The parliament was due to vote on Friday over whether to hold a referendum on halting the construction of the nuclear plant, also known as “Nuke 4,” near Taipei
