Cruz Slams 'Affluent,' 'Apathetic' GOP for Not Making School Choice 'Civil Right Issue of the 21st Century'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined the “Discussion on Faith & Freedom in the Public Square” at HBU Houston Baptist University last week and gave a passionate answer to a question about school choice.

Cruz said, “School choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century and I think we need to have a real passion for kids who are trapped right now in failing schools.”

Cruz blamed the Democratic party for their alliance with the teachers unions but he he also said the Republicans have been too complacent adding, “Here’s the other side — the dirty little secret is most Republican politicians are largely apathetic on this issue. They represent often affluent suburban districts where the schools are just fine.”
