Teenage Murder Suspect Surrenders at California TV Station

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – On November 24, at about 1 a.m., members of the Bakersfield Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Geneva Avenue after shots were reportedly fired.  When they arrived, officers found a crowd gathered and the body of Jerry Gray in the street. He was dead when police arrived. 

Last Sunday, over a month later, a man wanted in connection with the murder, arrived at a Bakersfield TV station at about 9 p.m., and turned himself in. Brendan Sanders, 18, upon arriving at KGET studios, reportedly wanted to be interviewed to establish his innocence prior to surrendering. He said during an interview with KGET, “I’m innocent and I don’t want to get accused of something that I didn’t do.”

According to KGET, part of the reason Sanders and his friends say they came into the studio was to request the reward from the secret witness program for his arrest.

KGET news director Mike Trihey called police. Sanders who had a warrant for his arrest on charges of murder and participation in a criminal street gang, was arrested and taken to the Central Receiving Facility.
