First Obamacare Client in Delaware Took Seven Hours to Sign Up

It took over seven hours, but a Delaware woman finally became the first person from her state to sign up for Obamacare. 

Janice Baker, 59, who runs a boarding kennel with her husband Joseph, said, “I went online Oct. 1st, and couldn’t get through to save my life. The first night I got someone in the Midwest. He was very nice, but when we got to the last screen his system froze up.” She was told to try it on her own, but that was unsuccessful.

The second night? She related, “I called the number and got a woman in Panama City, Florida. We got to the end and the same thing happened.”

Baker finally found an advisory note that told her to delete her cookies and browsing history. Then she finally succeeded.

Delaware Health and Human Services Secretary Rita Landgraf said roughly 1,000 people have contacted the state’s marketplace guides. She noted changes are in the offing, stating, “HHS has set up a screen now so you can compare plans before you sign up. Before that you had to qualify in order to see a plan.”
