U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division announced that fifteen illegals convicted of crimes were rounded up and arrested in the Milwaukee area over the first two weeks of January.
Authorities reported that the crimes perpetrated by those apprehended include vehicular homicide, strangulation and suffocation, battery, burglary, theft, domestic abuse, drug possession and drunken driving.
Three of the fifteen illegals had been previously deported, ICE reported.
“Our immigration-enforcement efforts are focused on arresting and removing convicted criminals from our communities,” said Ricardo Wong, field office director for ERO Chicago. “When we focus our resources on the most egregious offenders, we immediately improve public safety in the Milwaukee area.”
The nationality of those arrested are: Mexico (13), El Salvador (1), and Belarus (1). The arrests were made in Milwaukee (11), Brookfield (2), Menomonee Falls (1) and Wauwatosa (1).
According to ICE officials 235,413 illegals were removed nationwide last year. 91 percent had previously been convicted of a crime.
That number is way down, though. The Obama administration reported the deportation of 414,481 in 2014 and 438,421 unauthorized immigrants in fiscal year 2013. The vast majority of those removed had recently crossed the border. Less than 1 percent of the resident population of roughly 12 million illegals were sent home in 2015.
