Closing Judge Roy Moore Ad: We Dare Defend Our Right to Life

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Judge Roy Moore, the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate, is closing his campaign with a new television ad that makes the case for the right to life against abortion backers like radical leftist Democrat Doug Jones.

“If there is one thing we should all agree on, it’s the sanctity of life,” Drew Messer, a senior adviser to Moore, told Breitbart News. “And yet, Doug Jones believes in abortions up until the moment of birth. This is a despicable display of the American spirit and a warning sign for the direction our country is headed. We must ask ourselves: If a man is unwilling to protect the unborn, where does he draw the line?”

The ad shows babies in the womb and newborns, and plays on Alabama’s slogan of: We Dare Defend Our Rights.

“Life begins at conception,” text on screen shows at the beginning of the ad, showing a baby in the womb and an ultrasound–then shifts eventually to newborn babies. “Forms fingerprints at 10 weeks. Starts to dream at 18 weeks. Hears mother’s voice at 25 weeks. Doug Jones wants abortion to be allowed until the moment before birth. But here in Alabama, we dare to defend our rights. We dare to defend our freedoms. We dare to defend… LIFE.”

The ad closes with the sound of a beating heart and implores Alabamians to vote for Roy Moore on Dec. 12.

The ad comes after the issue of life has emerged as a major focal point in this campaign since Democrat Jones’ first interview after the GOP primary runoff concluded was one in which he told NBC News’ Chuck Todd that he supports abortion up until the moment a baby is born. That radical position is so far outside the mainstream and so extreme that even Planned Parenthood, former President Barack Obama, and failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton would not go that far.

“What are the limitations that you believe should be in the law when it comes to an abortion?” Todd asked Jones back on Sept. 27 on MSNBC.

“I am a firm believer that a woman should have the freedom to choose what happens to her own body,” Jones replied. “And I’m going to stand up for that and I’m going to make sure that that continues to happen. I want to make sure that as we go forward, people have access to contraception, they have access to the abortion that they might need if that’s what they choose to do. I think that’s going to be an issue that we can work with and talk to people about on both sides of the aisle.“

“But you wouldn’t legislate—so you wouldn’t be in favor of legislation that said ban abortion after 20 weeks or something like that?” Todd pressed further.

“No, I’m not in favor of anything that is going to infringe on a woman’s right and her freedom to choose—that’s just the position that I’ve had for many years,” Jones said. “It’s the position that I continue to have. But when those people—I want to make sure those people understand that, once a baby is born, I’m going to be there for that child. That’s where I become a right-to-lifer.”

In that same interview, Jones backed what he called “limitations” on the Second Amendment as well—where he called for additional background checks for those seeking to purchase firearms.
