Portland Police Arrest Two Men Connected with Anti-Trump Protest Shooting

Police in Portland, Oregon arrested two people connected with an anti-Trump protest shooting that injured a protester.

Steffon Marquise Corothers and Shamar Xavier Hunter, both 18 years old, were charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon, police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said to Oregon Live.

Corothers was charged with one count of attempted murder. Hunter was charged with six counts of attempted murder.

Corothers and Hunter were taken into custody Saturday morning along with two others after an off-duty police officer saw them in a suspicious vehicle spotted at the shooting.

Police also found a Tec-9 semiautomatic pistol in the car.

Police believe Corothers, Hunter, and the others in the car are gang associates, Simpson said.

The victim is recovering from non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police have not released the victim’s identity as the shooting is still under investigation.

Portland police declared the anti-Trump protests a riot Friday after windows and cars were destroyed.

Anti-Trump protests have been taking place across the country since Donald Trump won the presidential election on Nov. 9.
