Cold weather has killed 589 people in Ukraine since January 16 as temperatures dropped below minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 22 Fahrenheit), the health ministry said. The latest figures show 220 people died from cold between January 21 and 27.  Across the country, 6,700 people have sought medical help since mid-January of whom more than 3,870 were hospitalised, the ministry said in a news release. In the past few days temperatures have risen to as high as one degree Celsius (34 Fahrenheit) in places. |
