‘Alien: Covenant’ gives first glimpse of Katherine Waterston

LOS ANGELES, May 27 (UPI) — Alien: Covenant gave fans a first glimpse of Katherine Waterston on Thursday.

The Prometheus sequel released a behind-the-scenes photo of the 36-year-old actress on set as her character, Daniels. The shot, which is set in a spaceship, is captioned, “Nowhere to run.”

Alien: Covenant previously shared a glimpse of a spacesuit featuring a patch from the fictional Weyland-Yutani Corporation. The sinister company was first referenced in the 1979 movie Alien.

Prometheus and Alien: Covenant take place in the same universe as Alien and its sequels, but are not direct prequels or sequels to the film. Prometheus opened in 2012, while Alien: Covenant is slated for release Aug. 4, 2017.

Alien and Prometheus director Ridley Scott is also helming Alien: Covenant. The movie will see the crew of the spaceship Covenant explore a planet inhabited by the synthetic David (Michael Fassbender), who survived the Prometheus expedition.

“They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made,” Scott told The Wrap in December.

Waterston is known for Inherent Vice and will star in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with Eddie Redmayne. A new Alien sequel featuring original star Sigourney Weaver is also in the works with director Neill Blomkamp.
