Uruguayan international striker Edinson Cavani, star summer recruitment for French champions Paris Saint Germain, will miss his country’s friendly with Japan on Thursday with a groin strain, the Uruguayan Football Federation said Saturday.
After an exchange between the PSG and Uruguayan medical staff the Federation said in a statement that “Edinson Cavanihas pulled out of the Uruguay squad for next Wednesday’s match against Japan.
Cavani appeared for the final 18 minutes of PSG’s Ligue 1 opener on Friday, a 1-1 draw at Montpellier.
The match will be played at the Saitama Stadium 2002, a venue that was used for the 2002 World Cup and featured one of the semi-finals won by Brazil 1-0 over Turkey.
