The White House said Monday an immediate cutoff in military aid to Egypt would not be in US interests, and that it would take time to make a decision on long-term funding after last week’s military ouster of president Mohamed Morsi.
“We think that would not be in our best interests,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said when asked whether Washington was weighing cutting off US funds for Egypt’s military in the short term.
