A 41-year-old man on Wednesday admitted neglecting his four-month-old son who died when his mother accidently knocked a television set on his head at their Burnley home.
The jury at Preston Crown Court was told that Edward Hanratty was unconscious in the kitchen through drugs and alcohol when Natalie McMillan, 25, knocked over the television set weighing five-stone (32 kilograms) while trying to plug in a scart lead.
The set landed on Kian McMillan, who was lying on his changing mat, causing “catastrophic injuries”. He died in hospital on December 7 last year, the day after the accident.
McMillan, 25, also pleaded guilty to child neglect but denied manslaughter by gross negligence.
