Goldson suspended for illegal hit

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson was slapped with a one-game ban for an illegal hit to the head of New Orlean’s Darren Sproles in the first half of Sunday’s game.

Goldson was suspended for one game Monday as a result of his helmet-to-helmet hit on the Saints’ running back.

The violation was Goldson’s fifth for unnecessary roughness since 2011 and second through the first two weeks of the 2013 season.

Last week, Goldson was fined $30,000 for hitting New York Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland. Goldson has the option of appealing Monday’s suspension.

He has 16 tackles in two contests this season — his first with the Tampa Bay.
