Canadian alpine skier Robbie Dixon will need surgery to repair a broken right leg after crashing in a downhill at Copper Mountain, Colorado, the Canadian alpine federation said.
Dixon, 27, was taking part in a race sanctioned by the International Ski Federation (FIS) as part of his preparations for the Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup, which gets underway in Alberta, Canada, next week.
Dixon caught an edge of a ski after landing a jump and broke two bones in his right leg.
“It’s a hard one to swallow given how the last couple of years have gone,” said Dixon, who battled back from a serious concussion and had been looking forward to getting his 2012-13 World Cup season underway next week.
