Dante hoping Bayern form wins him Brazil spot

Brazilian defender Dante said Thursday he hopes his club form with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich will secure him a place in the Brazil team for the 2014 World Cup.

With Bayern seven-points clear at the top of the German league, the 29-year-old Dante has been in impressive form in his first season with the Bavarians since joining from Borussia Moenchengladbach during the summer.

“It is clear that’s my goal. I am playing for one of the top four clubs in Europe. Consequently, I also think about the Selecao (the Brazil team),” Dante told German Sky Sports News ahead of Saturday’s league game at Nuremberg.

“Winning titles with Bayern is obviously my priority. Afterwards, I will wait to see what happens.”

He has played all 11 German league games for Bayern so far this season, as well as all four Champions League matches, and in the German league he has helped bolster a defence which has conceded just four Bundesliga goals.

Dante, full name Dante Bonfim Costa Santo, started his European career at Lille in 2004, then played for Belgian teams RSC Charleroi and Standard Luettich before joining Moenchengladbach in 2009.
