Stoke striker Peter Crouch admits he feared he would end up looking like fearsome former Scotland star Joe Jordan after having two teeth knocked out in last week’s win against Newcastle.
Crouch was left having to wear a brace and a gum shield in matches following a clash with Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini that inflicted substantial damage to the England international’s mouth.
Looking at the gaps in his teeth gave Crouch the worrying thought that he would have to emulate Jordan, who now works as Harry Redknapp’s assistant at QPR.
Jordan lost his two front teeth early in his career while at Leeds and, though they were replaced by dentures, he played without them for safety reasons.
But fortunately for Crouch some quick thinking from a dentist in the crowd rescued the former Liverpool striker.
“The last week has been pretty horrendous,” Crouch told the Daily Mirror. “My teeth came out in my hand.
“Thankfully there was a dentist in the crowd, a season ticket holder who works for the club, who came down and acted very quickly. He saved them.
“I thought I was going to end up looking like Joe Jordan! I’ve never had to a wear brace before, not even when I was a teenager.”
