Jan. 31 (UPI) — Wes Welker is joining another NFL franchise, but he won’t be making catches in the slot.

His name was listed among the Houston Texans’ coaching changes Monday. He will serve as an offensive/special teams assistant.

Welker, 35, hasn’t played since 2015, leaving the game after suffering several concussions. The two-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection played for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and St. Louis Rams. Texans coach Bill O’Brien served as an offensive assistant with Welker and the Patriots from 2007 to 2011. Welker led the NFL in receptions three different times during his decorated career.

He ranks No. 21 all-time with 903 career receptions, but suffered at least six media-documents concussions during his 12-year NFL tenure.
