PARIS, June 13 (UPI) — Two world-class goalkeepers could play into their 40’s.

Spain keeper Iker Casillas recently told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he won’t retire until Italy’s Gianluigi Buffon also retires.

Buffon, 38, signed an extension with Juventus in May. He will stay with Juventus through the 2017-2018 season.

Casillas is 35-years-old, but his contract runs through 2018. Casillas has won two European Championship medals and a World Cup.

“When he retires, I will too,” Casillas told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He just signed a new deal and that makes me happy because that means I will too.

“When we call it quits we’ll set up a nice match between my friends and his friends.”

Casillas and David de Gea are each vying for a spot between the pipes in Spain’s Euro 2016 opening game against Czech Republic Monday. The Spaniards are looking to become the first team to ever win three consecutive Euro cups.
