Ostrava (Czech Republic) (AFP) – Russia’s Evgenia Medvedeva soared to a second straight women’s figure skating title in world record style at the European Championships on Friday.
The 17-year-old produced a flawless free skate, surpassing her own previous record with 150.79 points for an overall total of 229.71.
The reigning world champion led a Russian 1-2 ahead of teammate Anna Pogorilaya (211.39).
Former five-time European champion Carolina Kostner of Italy, returning after almost three years away from competition, prevented a Russian sweep for a third consecutive time by taking bronze with 210.52.
It was 29-year-old Kostner’s tenth European medal.
