Man accused in killing said he thought it was a 'virtual reality' game

NIZHNAYA MONOMA, Russia, Feb. 7 (UPI) —

A man accused in a fatal eastern Russia stabbing attack while drunk says he thought he was acting out a scene in a computer game, prosecutors said.

The 35-year-old man, whose name was not released, was visiting relatives in the village of Nizhnaya Monoma in February 2013 when the attacks occurred, RIA Novosti reported.

Police said he drunkenly armed himself with two knives and broke into neighboring homes, stabbing five people.

One of the victims died and four others were severely wounded.

The man was detained shortly after the attacks and faces up to 25 years in prison if he is convicted.

The suspect told investigators he had no intention of actually killing anyone. He said he thought he was committing a "virtual reality" murder.
