Wildfire in Northern California threatening 2,600 buildings

SACRAMENTO, June 30 (UPI) — A Northern California wildfire has grown to more than 1,500 acres on Thursday and is threatening about 2,600 structures north east of Sacramento, the U.S. Forest Service said.

Mandatory evacuations have been called in parts of El Dorado and Placer counties, forcing thousands of residents to flee, though no injuries have been reported. As of Thursday evening, the fire was 12 percent contained. The cause of the Trailhead fire is not known, according to the Forest Service.

The Trailhead fire ignited Tuesday about 50 miles northeast of Sacramento,along the middle fork of the American River, the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

At least 1,900 firefighters are battling the blaze with 123 engines, four helicopters and eight tankers as temperatures remain in the 90s with low humidity.
