NEW YORK, Oct. 28 (UPI) —
Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the company’s reason for killing off the iPod classic in September, to the disappointment of the fans of the outdated devices.
While speaking at the Wall Street Journal’s international technology conference Monday night, an audience member expressed his disappointment that he could no longer purchase the 160GB iPod classic. Cook said the axing was unavoidable.
"We couldn’t get the parts anymore, not anywhere on Earth," he said. "It wasn’t a matter of me swinging the ax, saying ‘What can I kill today?’"
The iPod may be outdated but the space is something select Apple users crave. The maximum storage on iPhones is 128GB and 64GB on iPods.
Though iPod classics are no longer in production, they are selling for more than $500 on Amazon.
