McConnell: Supreme Court Vacancy Nominee Should Be Chosen By Voters, Not ‘Lame-Duck’ Obama

At the weekly Senate GOP leadership press conference, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the replacement for the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia should be determined by the future president and not “lame-duck” President Barack Obama.

McConnell said, “So the question is who should make the decision? And my view, and I can now confidently say the view shared by virtually everybody in my conference, is that the nomination should be made by the president the people elect, in the election that’s underway right now.”

He added, “I believe the overwhelming view of the Republican Conference in the Senate is that this nomination should not be filled. This vacancy should not be filled by this lame-duck president.”
