Gowdy Hits Cummings for Benghazi Report Criticisms: ‘If Anyone Would Recognize an Overzealous Prosecutor, It Would Be Someone From Baltimore’

Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, punched back at his Democratic counterpart on the committee for a statement in a report committee Democrats released a day earlier, describing the GOP’s query as an “an overzealous prosecutor.”

Gowdy, apparently referring to the city of Baltimore’s effort to prosecute a handful of Baltimore police officers for the death of Freddie Gray, three of which so far have been acquitted, said Cummings should know about “overzealous” prosecution.

“If anyone would recognize an overzealous prosecutor it would be someone from Baltimore,” Gowdy said. “I will tell you that upfront.”

Gowdy went on to point out Democrats had not read the report prior to criticizing the committee Republicans’ efforts.

“He hasn’t read the report,” he said. “You read the report, and if you think it’s an overzealous prosecutor — we mention Secretary Clinton’s name less times than the Democrats do, despite the fact our report is twice as long.”
