Tuesday on Politico’s “Off Message” podcast, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said President Donald Trump was “in many ways a racist” who should resign “for the welfare of the country.”

Nadler said, “He has certainly shown racism over the years. I don’t know about anti-Semitism, but he certainly—he has certain prejudices. I don’t know if this is a true story, but the story was told that many years ago, he walked into the backroom of one of his casinos and saw some black accountants or whatever figuring his ledgers and said, ‘I don’t want black people counting my money, I want short fat guys with yarmulkes.’ Now, I don’t know whether that’s true. I shouldn’t really—I don’t know whether that’s true, but it’s told about him. But it is expressive of certain prejudices obviously. He has certainly shown anti-black prejudices from the time in the 70s when he and his father were discriminating in housing. The federal government had to prosecute him for that. In 1989 he called for the death penalty for five black teenagers who were accused of rape and were later exonerated of the rape. Many others, he called all Mexicans rapist, to the handling of Judge Curiel and many other examples. Yes, I think he is in many ways a racist.”

Part 2:

When asked if Trump should quit the presidency, he added, “For the welfare of the country he should. He obviously has shown himself as totally incapable of handing the job. He has been disgraceful in many ways. It should have been the simplest thing in the world to denounce neo-Nazis and white supremacists.”
