Jon Stewart on Obama's Mandela Memorial Selfie: 'That's Kinda F***ed Up'

Palace Guard comic Jon Stewart will defend President Barack Obama … but only up until a certain point.

Stewart spent part of his Daily Show program Tuesday excusing the president for shaking the hand of a dictator, Raul Castro, at the Nelson Mandela memorial. The comic claimed the gesture aligned with the late leader’s outreach efforts, and he lambasted reporters for evening questioning the handshake.

Stewart failed to mention the American still imprisoned in Cuba, or anything else about the freedom-snuffing country or its dictatorial policies.

When the segment turned to Obama taking a selfie at the memorial, Stewart’s ability to spin on the president’s behalf failed him.

“That’s kinda fucked up,” Stewart said through a bleep as video showed Obama smiling for the camera.
