Feds to Airlines Flying into Russia: Watch Out for Toothpaste Bombs

The U.S. Government has warned airlines flying into Russia to be on the lookout for explosives in toothpaste tubes.

NBC’s Pete Williams reported that that the “advisory is directed to airline flights that originate outside the United States.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, [Department of Homeland Security] regularly shares relevant information with domestic and international partners, including those associated with international events such as the Sochi Olympics,” the Homeland Security Official said. “While we are not aware of a specific threat to the homeland at this time, this routine communication is an important part of our commitment to making sure we meet that priority.”

As terror threats ramp up before the Games that begin this weekend, some athletes have instructed their families not to come to Sochi for the Winter Games.
