A discrimination lawsuit filed by a male Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official, James T. Hayes, alleges that DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and two of her appointees — Suzanne Barr and Dora Schriro — turned the Department into a “frat-house” in which males were purposely humiliated, degraded, and retaliated against.
FoxNews.com reports that the lawsuit, which was first reported by blogger Debbie Schlussel, claims that Barr and Shriro joined DHS in February of 2009, five months after Hayes received a promotion to director of ICE Detention and Removal Operations, and that Schriro, who Hayes says had a “long-standing relationship” with Napolitano, created an environment that humiliated and intimidated male employees.
According to FoxNews, the suit alleges, Barr “moved the entire contents of the offices of three male employees” to the men’s bathroom, stoke a male employee’s blackberry and sent a message to his female supervisor that he “had a crush” and had “fantasized about her.” The suit also alleges female agents made sexually degrading comments to male employees.
Hayes claims that after he had filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Office, he was retaliated against and that is the “cruz of the lawsuit.”
Hayes is seeking more than $330,000 in damages.
