Less than a week after Sec. of State Hillary Clinton fell on the sword for Obama over Benghazi, her husband Bill Clinton has sided with Mitt Romney’s charge that Obama hasn’t fixed economy.
Soon after arriving in Peru earlier in the week, Sec. of State Clinton tried to shield Obama by telling CNN, “I take responsibility for diplomats’ security.” This statement came only after days upon hours of intense meetings with attorneys, as she tried to figure out how best to save her chances for a 2016 presidential run.
From Peru she also said State Dept personnel, rather than the president and vice president, should have responded to security requests.
Yet this attempt at killing the momentum of Benghazi-gate was stopped in its tracks during the Oct 16 presidential debate, when an Obama said of Benghazi, “I am ultimately responsible for what’s taking place there.” Gov. Romney drove the point home by looking at the audience and saying, “I think the president just said the buck stops with him at his desk.”
In other words, Hillary Clinton was thrown under the bus.
Ironically, Clinton’s husband, former president Bill Clinton, had likewise laid down cover for Obama about a month ago at the Democrat National Convention. In his speech there, he asked, regarding Obama and our faltering economy, “Are we better off than we were when he took office?” Clinton then answered his own question in the affirmative.
And just in case there were naysayers at the convention who didn’t think they were better off than they were four years ago, Clinton added: “Listen to me now. No president — not me, not any of my predecessors — no one could have fully repaired all the damage that [Obama] found in just four years.”
Fast forward to Oct 18, two days after Obama trampled all over Hillary’s attempt to take responsibility, and at a campaign speech in Ohio, Bill Clinton admits that Romney’s argument about the economy “is true,” and also admits Obama hasn’t fixed the economy.
Could we be watching the beginning of the revenge of the Clintons?
