CA University Hires Diversity Staff to Prevent Non-White 'Culture Shock'

Young America’s Foundation reports that Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo is working hard to ensure that minority students won’t have to feel uncomfortable. They’re doing so by hiring a slate of diversity counselors, including two new admissions staffers engaged to increase diversity, and an executive director of diversity and inclusivity.

Erin Echols, Cal Poly coordinator of multicultural programs and services, says that such hires are necessary to prevent “culture shock” for non-white students. The campus is approximately 65.1% white and 34.9% students of other races – sort of like the United States, which is 63.4% white, according to the latest census numbers.
