Planned Parenthood President Gloats over Defeat of Albuquerque Abortion Ban

On Tuesday, voters in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico defeated the nation’s first city-wide ban on late-term abortions past 20 weeks of pregnancy. 

Totals from 50,000 early and absentee ballots showed 56 percent of voters rejected the proposal, while 44 percent supported it. Totals from voters casting ballots on Tuesday showed 55-45 percent against the ban.

“Months ago, most Albuquerque residents had no idea their city had become a national hub for late abortion,” said pro-life Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser in a press release. “Local pro-life activists took action to educate their neighbors and ended up gathering 27,000 signatures – more than twice the amount necessary – for a city ballot initiative to stop late abortion.”

Dannenfelser added, “Planned Parenthood and other national pro-abortion groups, including Organizing for Action (OFA), saw this spontaneous grassroots effort as a mortal threat and spent $1 million to defeat it.”
