National Pro-Life Groups Join Girl Scout Boycott

A small pro-life group in Waco, Texas, that plans to boycott Girl Scout cookies to protest the girls’ organization’s ties to Planned Parenthood and abortion has been joined by other national pro-life groups.

John Pisciotta, head of Pro-Life Waco, has received support for the boycott from a number of national pro-life groups and leaders, including the American Life League, the Pro-Life Action League, the Radiance Foundation, LifeNews, Operation Rescue, blogger Jill Stanek, the National Black Pro-Life Union, the Issues4Life Foundation, and Life Coalition International.

Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation, who recently gave the keynote address at the March for Life Rose Dinner in Washington, D.C., is a champion for adoption over abortion.

“The Girl Scouts still proclaim to be honest and courageous, while denying their continual collaboration with the nation’s largest and undeniably dishonest abortion chain,” Bomberger told Breitbart News. “Abortion doesn’t make the world a better place, unless you agree with the deeply racist and elitist pseudoscience of eugenics – the foundation of Planned Parenthood.”

Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League commented to Breitbart News, “As the father of six girls, I’m extremely disappointed by the Girl Scouts’ increasing collaboration with Planned Parenthood, an organization that aborts over 150,000 unborn baby girls every year.”

Similarly, Jim Sedlak of the American Life League told Breitbart News, “Through their continued support of the Culture of Death, the Girl Scouts have betrayed their heritage and their future. There is nobody who should purchase Girl Scout cookies to fund this group.”

Pisciotta’s group launched a Girl Scout cookie boycott in Waco in 2004 as well after the Bluebonnet Girl Scout Council began co-sponsoring the Nobody’s Fool summer sex education program offered by Planned Parenthood for Waco-area teens and pre-teens.

With this sponsorship by Planned Parenthood, Pro-Life Waco states the Bluebonnet Council placed the national Girl Scout logo on the program flyer and advertisements. In addition, Girl Scout employees served as volunteers for the Nobody’s Fool program.

In 2003, Pro-Life Waco’s website recounts that the Nobody’s Fool program began distributing to girls in grades 7-9 the book It’s Perfectly Normal, which contains topics about homosexuality, masturbation, contraception, and abortion.

In May of 2003, Pro-Life Waco stated the Bluebonnet Girl Scout Council honored the CEO of Planned Parenthood Waco as a “Woman of Distinction,” an act that is echoed in the Girl Scouts’ recent declaration of late-term abortion star Texas Sen. Wendy Davis as one of the organization’s “Incredible Women of the Year.”

According to Pro-Life Waco:

These are women held up as role models for young girls. Since the Planned Parenthood CEO managed the abortion facility in Waco, the implication was the some Girl Scout might grow up and one day and have the stature of managing a business killing per-born girls and boys! [sic] At the time of the Woman of Distinction honor, Planned Parenthood had committed nearly 10,000 abortions.

These three elements of Girl Scout entanglement with Planned Parenthood led Pro-Life Waco to launch a Waco-area boycott in early February of 2004. Victory was achieved in less than three weeks.

In response to further requests for comment from Breitbart News, Senior Policy Advisor with The Catholic Association Maureen Ferguson remarked on the Girl Scouts’ honoring Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis.

“What a travesty that a once-esteemed organization like the Girl Scouts has been coopted by the left and promotes as a role model for girls someone who rose to fame fighting for late term abortions and lower standards for women’s health at abortion clinics,” Ferguson said.

Lila Rose, president of Live Action, also commented to Breitbart News:

One of the ways Planned Parenthood has become so successful is by infiltrating and corrupting organizations that should be sanctuaries for women and young girls. We see this with the Komen Foundation, with our public education system, and, glaringly, with the Girl Scouts (GSUSA).

GSUSA’s intimate association with Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion corporation, is well-documented. But a billion-dollar enterprise glorifying sexual promiscuity, peddling hormone-altering drugs as panacea, and lobbying for physically and psychologically destructive abortion through all nine months of pregnancy has no interest whatsoever in girls’ well-being.

There are wholesome, healthy alternatives to the Girl Scouts out there. No little girl – or her parents – should have anything to do with an organization that kills over 330,000 pre-born children a year, covers up sexual abuse, advocates for infanticide, and builds its entire business model on harming women.

“As long as GSUSA stands side-by-side with Planned Parenthood, it endorses and enables these horrific practices,” Rose added.

Breitbart News also reached out to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth but received no response as of publication.

As Breitbart News’s Austin Ruse reported, while the Girl Scout organization claims that all revenues from cookie sales stays with the regional council and that the national office receives no revenue from these sales, “Girl Scouts USA receives millions in licensing fees for every box sold, money that contributes substantially to its enormous budget.”
