Mike Lee Spot for Ben Sasse Blanketing Nebraska Airwaves

In the closing days of a high-profile primary race in Nebraska, a top conservative group is pouring resources into an ad featuring a testimonial by Utah Sen. Mike Lee.

The commercial features Lee (R-UT), the architect of the defund Obamacare strategy, vouching for candidate Ben Sasse’s conservative credentials and opposition to Obamacare. It is running statewide this week after an initial $150,000 media buy.

Officials from Citizens United, the group funding the ad, said they increased the size of the ad buy because the response received an impressive response.

“Don’t be fooled by false attacks against conservative Ben Sasse,” Lee says in the ad. “Ben Sasse has always opposed Obamacare. Period.”

Lee, who endorsed and campaigned for Sasse along with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sarah Palin, says in the ad conservatives need Sasse’s vote in the Senate to stop the Obamacare train wreck. Sasse started to rocket up the polls after staunchly opposing Obamacare and assailing the Washington Republican establishment for not opposing Obamacare fiercely enough.

The Nebraska Senate primary is May 13, and Sasse has a slight lead over establishment candidate Shane Osborn and Sid Dinsdale, who is being called out as a “counterfeit conservative” because of his donations to liberal Democrats and vow to always raise the debt limit.
