Claiming that he was lost and being chased by wild hogs, a Florida man dialed 911 for help just before 2 AM on Thursday and was immediately arrested for having an active warrant for driving with a suspended/revoked driver’s license.
ABC 7 WWSB MySuncoast reported that Pasco County Sheriffs received a call from Andrew James Joffe, who explained that he did not know where he was, but that he was on Deen Still Road. Compounding Joffe’s dilemma, the deputies that located him found in his backpack a GPS device with a “home address” programmed to one other than where the wandering Joffe lived. The programmed address led deputies to a person who said that her car had been burglarized and that the GPS was hers.
After Joffe admitted to stealing the GPS, the deputy brought two more charges against him, including petty theft and burglary-conveyance. According to Sheriff Grady Judd, “We have had people with warrants call us to turn themselves in before, but it’s unusual for someone with an active warrant, who just burglarized a car, to get lost and call us for help. In his defense, it does get pretty dark out on Deen Still Road in the middle of the night.”
