On December 16, a 14-year-old boy in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, shot and killed a home intruder to save his grandmother’s life.

According to WBTV.com, the boy–Anthony Hernandez–was visiting his grandparents when he heard “loud banging” outside their house around 5 pm. He went to check on the source of the noise and saw a window start to move as 18-year-old Isai Delcid tried to break in.

Anthony retrieved a gun and warned the would-be intruder that he was armed. But he said Delcid just kept hitting the window and eventually broke through the glass–that is when the 14-year-old shot him. The boy’s grandmother–Anna Marie Wyant–said Delcid reached his arm through the window before Anthony shot him. She said her grandson warned the intruder “plenty of times.”

Police found Delcid dead on the back deck of the home when they arrived.

They  said Delcid’s older brother, Carlos, was involved in the would-be crime via his role as getaway driver. The two brothers planned to take pain pills and whatever else they could get from Anthony’s grandparents.
