State GOP Calls On Rep. Michael Grimm to Resign

Michael Grimm

New York State Republican Party leaders are urging Congressman Michael Grimm (R-NY) to resign from office, Breitbart News has learned. “We are looking for Grimm to step down for the good of the party and the people of Staten Island and Brooklyn,” they said. Grimm pleaded guilty today to a felony tax charge of a public corruption case in New York.

Grimm told reporters he spoke to GOP leadership in Washington and is not resigning. “No as I said before: as long as I am able to serve I will serve,” he insists.

In April, Grimm initially pleaded not guilty to all 20 federal counts he faced, including misreporting $1 million of income and wages in regards to a restaurant he owned called Healthalicious. The New York Rep. was also charged with hiring undocumented immigrants and mail fraud. Grimm’s sentencing is scheduled for June 8.

The Congressman won his November reelection campaign with a 55-42 margin. Some in the New York State GOP believe Republican New York State Assembly Woman Nicole Maliotakis, among others, could be persuaded to run for the seat.
