Moderate Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) mantra, believes Republicans will be blamed if the Department of Homeland Security is not funded over objections to President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty. He also thinks he can win South Carolina’s 2016 GOP presidential primary.

On This Week, Graham called for Congress to pass an unencumbered Homeland Security bill so Republicans do not get blamed for the department’s shutdown.

“I hope my House colleagues will understand that our best bet is to challenge this in court, that if we don’t fund the Department of Homeland Security, we’ll get blamed as a party,” Graham said.

He said he has “never seen more terrorist organizations with more safe havens, with more money, with more capability to strike the homeland than I do today.”

“And that’s a direct result of a failed foreign policy by President Obama,” Graham continued. “And the worst thing to do is add gasoline to the fire by having the Republican Party defund the Department of Homeland Security.”

Though Democrats have united in filibustering a Homeland Security spending bill that funds the department except for Obama’s executive amnesty, Graham was not critical of them. Instead, he, as he usually does, blamed conservatives first.

Regarding 2016, Graham said he did not know whether he will take the plunge but added, “I think I can win South Carolina or I wouldn’t be talking to you.”

Though Graham led in a recent Marist South Carolina poll, 58% of South Carolinians did not want him to run for president. Graham brushed off those numbers because he said a lot of Democrats opposed to him were sampled in that poll.
