On September 24, an alleged home invader in Port Arthur, Texas, was shot when the homeowner–an off-duty police officer–heard the suspect using a hammer to gain entrance through a window in the front of the house.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m.

According to 12 News, Officer Ahmall Bodden and his family were home when they heard the sound of breaking glass. When Bodden went to investigate the noise he “found a man on the front porch with a hammer trying to get into his home.”

The suspect allegedly threatened Bodden when confronted, so Bodden to open fire, striking the suspect “in the hip/pelvic area.”

The alleged home invader was then arrested and taken to Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.
