On December 4 CNN reported that San Bernardino attackers Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik were not on “any list” tied to potential terrorists in the U.S.
This comes as Democrats–including President Obama–continue attempting use the San Bernardino attacks as justification for expanding background checks to include the no-fly list and the terror watch list.
CNN reported, “Neither Farook nor Malik were on any list of potentially radicalized people.” Fox News reported that Farook flew in 2013 and 2014–which would be difficult to do if on a no-fly list–and Breitbart News reported that Malik passed a screening for her K-1 Visa.
Moreover, during the December 6 airing of FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace, Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX-10th) made clear that the Farook and Malik slipped under the federal radar. He said, “There were no flags [or] warning signs in this particular case.”
This goes to the heart of the NRA’s opposition to expanding background checks to include the no-fly list. If such an expansion occurred it would not prevent people who are not on “any list” from getting guns, even if those people were planning a San Bernardino-style attack. What it would do, however, is expand gun control to include an imprecise list that puts law-abiding citizens in a position of forfeiting their Second Amendment rights by having their name cross referenced and falsely viewed as being on the list.
