Academy Defends Seth MacFarlane from Democrat-led Attack on Oscar Telecast

The Academy has Seth MacFarlane’s back.

A women’s group along with two Democratic lawmakers are blasting MacFarlane’s Oscar night performance, one which brought in higher ratings than last year’s telecast. Martha Lauzen, executive director of the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, called the host’s We Saw Your Boobs number “misogynist.”

California legislators, Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal and Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, both Democrats, also piled on the Family Guy creator for his allegedly sexist routine. They told the Academy to be “more careful” in selecting future hosts, according to TheWrap.com.

The Academy quickly defended MacFarlane:

“If the Oscars are about anything, they’re about creative freedom,” an Academy spokeswoman said in a statement to TheWrap. “We think the show’s producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, and host Seth MacFarlane did a great job and we hope our worldwide audience found the show entertaining.”
