Report: 'Father of the Bride' Sequel to Feature Gay Marriage

Steve Martin may return to the Father of the Bride franchise, but a new report says the walk down the aisle won’t be quite the same.

NikkiFinke’s newly launched site reports that a third Bride will likely feature a same-sex wedding.

The twist in this threequel is that Little Matty is now 29 and gay and getting married to a Navy SEAL’s son.  Father of the bride George is “thunderstruck and speechless” and has problems with the whole gay thing. So wife Nina kicks him out of the house, according to the pitch which Disney loved. Shyer is writing it with Marc Klein, David Hoberman producing again. “It’s a timely idea,” my source said.

It’s been nearly 20 years since Father of the Bride II hit theaters. Martin’s first Father of the Bride, a remake of the Elizabeth Taylor/Spencer Tracy film, featured Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams and Kieran Culkin as Matty.

Update: It appears the project is news to Martin. The comic legend shared this via his Twitter page today:
