New York’s Treehouse Theater announced that they will present a live reading of The Interview screenplay two days after Christmas, reports Variety.
The venue is offering free admission to the Dec. 27 event, which will be held at the theater in midtown.
A message from the theater partially read:
In the wake of recent events surrounding the controversial film ‘The Interview,’ the feeling that a threat to free speech has been imposed is inescapable and terrifying.
In response to this, three comedians have acquired a draft of the script for the banned film and are producing a live-read at the Treehouse Theater on Saturday, December 27th at 7pm.
Featuring some of the finest performers from the Upright Citizen’s Brigade theater, this is an opportunity for people to come together in the name of free speech, in defiance of all who have threatened it.
New York City comedians Dave Hensley, Sean Perrotta, and Benny Scheckner are producing the event, and hope to make a political statement by bringing the film to audiences by whatever means necessary.
Sony made headlines last week after they decided to pull the comedy, which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, from theaters after receiving terroristic threats from hackers.
A comedy show called “F*ck You You Kim Jong-un” will follow the live read.
