As if men today didn’t already have enough trouble deciphering feminist relationship etiquette, actress Helen Mirren is now suggesting that men who put their arms around their girlfriends are being sexist.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Daily Mail’s You Magazine, the 70-year-old spoke about public displays of affection that she apparently finds offensive.

“It annoys me when I see men with an arm slung around their girlfriend’s shoulders. It’s like ownership,” said Mirren. “Of course, when you’re young, you want the guy to take your hand and look after you.”

“But when I see girls being leaned on, I want to say, ‘Tell him to get his damned arm off your shoulder,'” she added.

There’s more:

Women are still toddlers in this modern world, trying to find their position in the age of sexual liberation, birth control, education and financial independence.

We’re still finding our path. And yes, we’re making a lot of mistakes along the way.

Mirren also disclosed advice she would give to her younger self, which “would be to use the words ‘f*** off’ much more frequently.”

Hands off, boys, you don’t own her!

Not so fast, Barack!
