Politico Downplays Poll Data Showing Plurality Wants Brett Kavanaugh Confirmed

Politico hid the results of its own Wednesday poll that shows a plurality of registered voters want to see Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Politico’s headline reads, “Poll: Voters fractured over Kavanaugh choice” and accurately points out — to the surprise of no one — that Democrats and Republicans are split on Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

A full 71 percent of Republicans want to Trump’s nominee confirmed (which seems low), while only 17 percent of Democrats agree.

The Politico story goes on for another 400 or so words, but never bothers to inform readers of an inconvenient truth — that a plurality of 40 percent want to see Kavanaugh confirmed, while only 28 percent disagree. That is a 12 point spread. A full 32 percent have no opinion yet. You can find that question buried here on the bottom of page seven.

In this misleading story, the far-left Politico also makes a big deal out of the support the poll shows for Roe v. Wade, but downplays the importance of that number when it comes to actually confirming Kavanaugh. More bad news for Politico chose not to report is the fact that a plurality of 48 percent believe Senators should base their confirmation vote on Kavanaugh’s qualifications, while only 32 percent believe their vote should be based on political or social issues.

Other numbers of interest in the poll…

A full 44 percent approve of the job President Trump is doing, while 52 percent disapprove.

The public is about evenly split on the success of Trump’s NATO summit. While 38 percent believe it was successful, 36 percent disagree.

On the question of whether Trump represented U.S. interests at NATO, 42 percent said he did this well, while 37 percent disagreed.

In the 2018 generic congressional ballot, Republicans are down eight points; 45 percent will vote for a Democrat, while 37 percent will vote Republican.

Hidden way at the bottom of the poll is the news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is upside down with the public. Only 31 percent have a favorable view of him, while 34 percent view him unfavorably.
