Jay Sekulow was a one-time trial attorney who represented the IRS in tax-exempt cases. Today he represents 27 conservative groups in a lawsuit set to be filed against the IRS today. Sekulow told Sean Hannity last night that part of his lawsuit proves that the abusive targeting of Obama’s political foes did not end when the IRS claimed. One of his clients received a harassing IRS letter dated May 6.
Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday night that he would soon be ‘taking a lot of depositions in a very big lawsuit’ against the IRS on behalf of 25 right-wing groups.
He revealed on the Hannity show that despite assurances from the Treasury Department and the White House that the IRS had stopped subjecting tea party groups to special scrutiny in 2012, his office received a letter addressed to one of his clients ‘on May 6 of this year from the IRS, asking for responses to intrusive questions.’
NBC News reports today that Sekulow’s lawsuit also contains letters that prove the abuse was not confined to two rogue agents at the Cincinnati, Ohio, office. Higher-ups from Washington DC were also involved. More on that here.
