Mother Allegedly Tries To Kill Baby, Thought Baby Was Trying To Kill Her

A Puyallup woman was arraigned in Pierce County superior court Monday, accused of trying to kill her baby because she believed the child was trying to kill her, court documents said.

 According to probable cause documents, the baby’s father said when he arrived home Sunday, the 3-month-old’s mother, Anna Murphy, told him she had thrown the baby down.  The father said he saw blood on and inside the baby’s mouth and immediately called 911.

When interviewed by officers, Murphy told them she thought the baby was trying to kill her so she threw the child down and tried to kill her, documents said.  She also said she was having her first exorcism and said she threw her child on the ground because she thought the baby was traveling to another dimension and was trying to save her, probable cause documents said.

The baby suffered facial injuries and is in protective custody.

Murphy was taken to a hospital for an evaluation where she made a variety of bizarre statements that included that she was being raped and was in a house of mirrors with Hitler, police said.

Murphy was eventually transported to jail on charges of second-degree child assault.

Murphy’s boyfriend told officers that Murphy threatened to commit suicide a month ago.

She appeared in court wearing a suicide prevention garment and was ordered held on $150,000 bail.
