Report: Sebelius Is Mulling Senate Run in Kansas Against Roberts

As incredible as it may seem after the horribly glitch-ridden ObamaCare rollout, outgoing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is reportedly mulling a run for the Senate in Kansas

Sebelius would face off against Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) who accused her of “gross incompetence” and called for her resignation, last Fall, shocking Kansas insiders who remember Roberts’ close friendship with her father-in-law, Keith Sebelius, who was a Republican Congressman from Kansas from 1969 to 1981.

Several Democratic sources told the Times that Sebelius has been floated as a possible challenger to Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.).

“One person who spoke directly to Ms. Sebelius said that she was thinking about it, but added that it was too soon to say how seriously she was taking the idea,” the Times report said.

At a Senate Finance Committee hearing, last November,  Roberts called for Sebelius to resign,  as she sat “stony-faced.”

“It makes you hope that Bob Dole’s children never marry Democrats,” Kansas state Rep. Scott Schwab told TheDC. “The scars that she caused cut so deep that it caused her father-in-law’s great friend to ask for her resignation. You’ve got to be trying to be incompetent to have Pat Roberts call for your resignation when he has that much love for your father-in-law. It’s sad.”

“Pat had a lot of loyalty to Keith Sebelius, and that relationship even transcended his relationship with Dole. For him in his last term in the Senate to have to call for Keith’s daughter-in-law’s resignation, it’s sad,” Schwab said.

Roberts is campaigning for his fourth Senate term and Sebelius has until June 2 to file paperwork to run against him.
