Texas Peace Officer Heads to Jail for Writing Fake Ticket

44-year-old Eric Baumgart will spend 90 days in jail for committing a felony related to tampering with government records, according to local reports. Baumgart is a former Harris County Public Defender’s Office chief investigator and reserve deputy with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. 

The Houston Chronicle reported that Baumgart wrote a fake ticket to someone he personally knew in order to substantiate an arrest warrant. 

Baumgart was also found guilty of violating the Private Security Act, according to the report. In 2012, he illegally providing security to businesses–he did not have the proper license to provide such services, but did so regardless. 

According to the Houston paper, upon his release from jail Baumgart will spend five years on probation, must perform 20 hours of community service, and will receive mandatory drug testing on a regular basis. As a result of the convictions, he is also prohibited from being a Texas officer in the future. 

Breitbart Texas’ calls to the Harris County Public Defender’s Office were not immediately returned.
